Kanji in and of itself, to me, is why I love Chinese/Japanese as languages.

Each kanji has a meaning that’s hidden in a simplified picture that combines different pieces to create a new word.

Like, 休 is Yasu, the root of Yasumu which is “to rest/day off”

It’s comprised of 人, which is “Human” (that’s the left of the kanji, it’s compressed so it fits in a box.)
And 木, which is Tree.

Literally it’s a person leaning or laying against a tree to rest or relax.

That kind of thing fascinates me.
